"The Road" is not a very healthy environment.

The people called "road dogs" are especially vulnerable to alcoholism. They can easily be arrested, and the vehicles they live out of can be searched and seized by the police much more easily than a house, if illegal drugs are suspected. But alcohol, a lethal drug, is legal in this country and readily available, and so it becomes the drug of choice for many people living on the road.

At the Rainbow Gatherings, there's generally a place called "A-Camp." "A" is for alcohol. "We love our alcoholic brothers and sisters," the rainbows will say, "but we don't want the alcohol (except at A-Camp)."
